Life after cancer

At the age of 63, David was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, a cancerous bone tumour in his left knee. A healthy and active person, David had never before been hospitalized and had no idea what to expect. Upon learning it was the same cancer as Terry Fox, he envisioned losing his leg and was afraid it would bring an end to his active lifestyle.

But everything changed once he met Dr. Jay Wunder, Surgeon-in-Chief and Head of the Division of Orthopaedic Surgery at Mount Sinai Hospital. After hearing Dr. Wunder’s treatment plan, he left the Hospital feeling uplifted and ready to face the challenges ahead of him. In 2013, David underwent surgery to remove the cancer and reconstruct his knee, followed by radiation therapy.

“Being diagnosed with cancer was truly a shock. But once I met with the staff at Mount Sinai, I had a whole new lease on life. They gave me what I needed to beat this and let the healing process begin.”

Today David is cancer-free and fully recovered. With his knee back to normal, he and his wife traveled to Greece where he climbed the Palamidi Castle. He is grateful to his team at Mount Sinai for his health and recovery to a normal life.
