Sinai Health System and Sinai Health Foundation are beginning an exciting new era under new leadership. We are excited to announce that Dr. Gary Newton was appointed to the role of President and CEO of Sinai Health System in October and that Joseph Mapa has been chosen as the new CEO of Sinai Health Foundation, following a highly successful, nearly 40-year career at Mount Sinai Hospital and Sinai Health System, where he was the CEO since 2001.
As former Chief Medical Strategy Officer and Physician-in-Chief of Sinai Health System, Gary played an instrumental part in defining the vision and long-term strategy for Sinai Health System and understands the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.

Gary takes over the helm of Sinai Health System from Joseph Mapa, who led the organization for more than 15 years before collaborating with Marian Walsh, former Associate CEO and Chief Transformation Officer, to create Sinai Health System. Joseph announced his retirement earlier this year, and we are excited to have him transition into a new role as CEO of the Foundation to continue to build on the great momentum around our fundraising efforts.
Joseph’s passion for the cause, extensive experience in health care, deep ties to the community and knowledge of the competitive philanthropic landscape makes him extremely well suited for this role. During his tenure, he has worked very closely with the Foundation and is familiar with its operations, but more importantly with the critical role philanthropy plays in championing health care.
