About the Cause

Twenty years ago, our donor Marvelle Koffler had a vision to create a breast cancer centre where women could have all of their diagnostic tests, care and treatments performed in one place. She was keenly aware of how stressful a cancer diagnosis can be for a woman, and understood that the best way to ease anxiety throughout this difficult time would be to create a space where a patient could feel cared for in a warm and personal way. Thanks to her and her family’s generosity, this vision became a reality.

For the past 20 years, countless breast cancer patients have said that the Breast Centre is a very special place—that it doesn’t look like a sterile hospital, but rather in a friendly, family-like environment where each woman is personally acknowledged, and treated by staff as an individual, not a number.

Though it’s comforting to know that being a patient of the Breast Centre means you’re in expert hands, what makes the Marvelle Koffler Breast Centre truly unique is its warm, person-centered approach.

Tiana Koffler, Debbie Kimel and Irit Shay would like to maintain this exceptional and unique Breast Centre so that we can have the latest medical technology to complement our highest quality of care for our hundreds of thousands of women in Toronto and beyond.
