The Cause
Canada has among the highest reported prevalence of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) in the world. IBD (Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis) is an autoimmune disease in which the patient's immune system attacks the digestive system.
Sinai Health System houses internationally recognized leaders in IBD and digestive cancers. Zane Cohen Centre for Digestive Diseases (ZCC) is a clinical and translational research facility with world-leading physicians and surgeons who care for people affected by the most challenging cases of gastrointestinal diseases, Hereditary Cancer Syndromes and conducts research that changes lives. Because our investigators are clinicians, the Centre prides itself in being able to quickly and efficiently bring new research findings into the medical setting, for more tailored treatment and better patient care. The ZCC is proud of its collaborative team structure consisting of gastroenterologists, surgeons, psychiatrists, psychologists, pathologists, radiologists, molecular geneticists, nurses, genetic counsellors, epidemiologists, paediatricians and IT specialists.
